I am going to be baking all weekend… at The Cake & Bake Show, London ExCel.
If you love to bake and are based anywhere near London, you are not going to want to miss the show. It starts tomorrow and runs until Sunday so you will have plenty of time to visit.
Because I have the attention span of a gnat, I am one of the few chefs who does several different demonstrations over the course of the weekend, with something for all levels. Whether you are a complete cake decorating novice or an improver, I’ve got a class for you.
Full details of classes and how to book are all on the Cake & Bake website but here’s a quick breakdown for you…
Burlesque Baking (£6 BOOKING REQUIRED)
Decorating Classroom: 12:20 Saturday 8th and 14:10 Sunday 9th October
This is the essential ‘how to get the icing on the cake’ class. I will talk you through the preparation of your naked cake before demonstrating how to work your icing and get it perfectly smooth with lovely clean edges. There will be an introduction to royal icing and sugar flower making too so this is a perfect place to begin.
Wired Sugar Roses (£6 BOOKING REQUIRED)
Decorating Classroom: 13:15 Friday 7th and 15:05 Saturday 8th October
If you can make roses from sugar, you can have a very long and happy career in cake design! The most popular flower for weddings also happens to be one of the simplest that you can make. I know it looks complicated but I will break the process down for you and you will be surprised at how achievable these are at home.
Rainbow Candy Cascade Cake (FREE CLASS, NO BOOKING REQUIRED)
Cake & Bake Super Theatre: 16:30 Saturday 8th and 16:15 Sunday 9th October
I’ll be building upon the design that I created in the Kenwood Kitchen at The Goodwood Revival last month to show you how to perfectly cover your cakes in a smooth layer of buttercream and create a rainbow finish. I will also show you how to make that ‘gravity defying’ bag of sweets effect… it’s so simple and a really easy cake to customise for your friends and loved ones.
All details and booking are on the Cake & Bake website. I’ll look forward to seeing you there!
