Wedding Cake Wednesday: Tell Me What You Want, What You Really Really Want

Good morning, you gorgeous lot. I’m busying myself with preparations for my trip to Edinburgh this weekend to take a little Burlesque Baking to Foodies Festival.

If you are north of the wall, make sure you come along to say hello and enjoy a slice of cake with me. I’ll be in The Cake & Bake Theatre at 1:30pm and 3:30pm Friday 5th – Sunday 7th August!

Back to today and another Wedding Cake Wednesday. I wanted to share a quick story with you, because each Bespoke Wedding Cake comes with a story.

I met Sarah-Jane in a coffee shop the Spring before her 2015 wedding and we chatted for an age about her wedding plans and probably everything else too! The wedding was going to be very pretty and very English country-chic in style, with the stunning barn at Gaynes Park as its setting. The ideas that we threw around for the cake were mismatching coloured tiers, hearts and the word ‘love’, and a birdcage shaped top tier.

So, I headed home full of ideas and drew up some concepts…

And I received this in return!

My wonderfully creative Bride, whilst trying to write her suggestions down in an email, had thought it would be easier to sketch out her ideas. She admitted that she had enjoyed the challenge and I think I may have even offered her a job!

Concept sketches for a Bespoke Wedding Cake are only ever the start of a conversation; if I nail it first time, that is fab but I’m committed to getting it right. I took one look at this sketch and knew that this was perfect… so I baked it!
