Wedding Cake Wednesday: Paint the Whole World with a Rainbow

Good morning, you gorgeous lot!

I must apologise for my antisocial behaviour – as in, I’ve been antisocial, not given an ASBO – this week. My workload is crazy and I do not mean to neglect you. If I am ever quiet, rest assured it is because I am running around like a blue-arsed fly!

I am preparing for several rather fabulous weddings, all of which are within a very short space of time. This is never a problem for a pro if prepared. If you follow me on Instagram, you will be able to see snapshots from my day in ‘my story’…

The key is to identify any elements of the cake that CAN be made in advance and get them done. For several weeks now, I have been making sugar roses and other sugar flowers, as well as sugar swans, sugar skulls, and all are safely boxed up ready for their cakes. I am getting there but it’s insane down in the workshop!

I thought I would make up for my relative quietness (yeah, as if!) with something loud. I made this wedding cake for a styled shoot, organised by the incredible Sarah Dunn of Sarah’s Doo-Wop Dos and featured on Marry Me Ink wedding blog.

I loved making this cake as a great styled shoot gives me a whole bunch of creative freedom. Sarah wanted to create something bright and colourful, with a bit of a 90s vibe about it. I knew that our model, Keely (of Get Nailed by Keely) was a bright and colourful girl, with some gorgeous tattoos. I brought these elements into my design and had no idea how perfect the result was going to be…

That’s not me being big-headed.

I wanted to break up the airbrushed rainbow on the cake with some ‘black work’ tattoo inspired designs and I settled on a mandala motif… and Keely has a mandala tattoo! I had no idea. Lucky guess on the part of the cake designer!

I love these pictures and am proud to have been a part of this stellar line up:
