I Would Love to Bake a Cake for… Joe Bartley

Good morning, you gorgeous lot! I hope that you have all had a fabulous weekend and are ready to attack this new week with gusto.

My subject for this week’s Monday post is a little different to those that I have featured in the past – and I so hope that you are enjoying these little flights of fantasy baking each week – no Hollywood celebrity, global statesperson, or Disney favourite this week.

Today, I would love to bake a cake for Joe Bartley. The name may ring a bell as you will have read about this gentleman in the news this week and I hope that his story will have moved you just as much as it has moved me.

Joe Bartley placed this ad in his local paper, looking for some employment. A widower of two years, Joe was finding his situation a little solitary and decided to do something about it.

And this is why I would love to bake Joe a cake.

The 89-year old veteran took matters into his own hands to change his life for the better. What’s bugging you today? It’s Monday, so if there is something that you can do to improve your life for the better, what better day to get on it? I am a firm believer in the power of ‘putting it out there’; if there is something that you want to do, acknowledge it today.

I am inspired by Joe Bartley and my mantra this week will be ‘what would Joe do’. Joe will be busy working in his new position at the Cantina Bar and Kitchen in Paignton, Devon, but I would love to sit him down with a cuppa and a slice of cake to thank him for reminding us all that life is very much what we make of it.

Carrot Cake Cut

Maybe a slice of spiced Carrot Cake, perfect for fending off the winter chill as it rolls in and brings 2016 to a close. Take a little moment to yourself today and plan the best 2017 ever. Write those dreams down, tell your nearest and dearest over a glass of bubbly, put it out there and go get it.

Stay gorgeous!
