Fashion on Friday: My Birthday Suit

It’s back! Not by popular demand but by the demands of my ever-expanding wardrobe that is, frankly, becoming a monster; Fashion on Friday is here for the Autumn and Winter.

I love sharing my wardrobe with you all as I adore fashion and am constantly asked about what I wear. In fact, I was interviewed by Fabulous Magazine and you can read my thoughts on style and my advancing years this Sunday 17th September, free with The Sun on Sunday.

Yesterday was my 35th birthday so I thought it appropriate to kick off this new season of Fashion on Friday with my birthday suit… which is from the wonderful people at Collectif!

Made up of the Meryl Darling Check Suit Jacket and Bonnie Darling Check Trousers, this is quite the power-suit! The moment I saw it in previews, I knew that it had to be mine.

The trousers are beautifully high-waisted and short on the leg, hitting me at around ankle-length. I am a bit fan of this length of trousers as it affords the opportunity to show off a killer heel. I am aware that this trouser length is not for everyone and so are the lovely people at Collectif who have provided a pencil skirt option which will be available (and most likely in my wardrobe!) soon. The whole suit is constructed of a sturdy fabric, which is delightfully soft and suede-like to the touch.

The jacket has a lovely peplum shape about it which nips in the waist and allows for carb consumption. If you are conscious of your tummy, this is a nice touch.

I should perhaps point out that I would normally wear this suit with a top underneath but I didn’t have anything perfect and was so desperate to try this baby on that I went ‘top-half-commando’ if that is a thing. If you have a really nice bra – maybe a piece of corsetry from What Katie Did – then show it off. I have a feeling that this suit is not going to appeal to the faint-hearted or sartorially nervous.

In fact, the reason that I love this suit so much is that it makes me feel like RuPaul in one of his many amazing workroom suits! Anything that makes me look like RuPaul (in or out of drag) is OK by me.

I think I nailed it…

Hello hello hello! Maybe not.

My Autumn/Winter wardrobe relies heavily on tartan, plaid, and check designs. Having this in the collection is very exciting as I know that both the jacket and trousers will be amazing worn separately. I’m looking forward to getting a little more adventurous with my prints and shapes and having fun every day that I get dressed.

That is really what it’s all about. Life is too short for boring trousers.

Stay gorgeous!
