Andy Warhol Looks a Scream

In my continuing series of cake designs inspired by great figures from history, my latest tutorial for Cake Decoration & Sugarcraft Magazine is inspired by Andy Warhol.

As with so many other figures from the art world, my introduction to Andy Warhol came through David Bowie.

My love of David Bowie has been crazy enough that I have wanted to learn about those things that inspired him and Warhol was one on that long list. I love Pop Art and the iconic images of iconography that Warhol created but more than this I find myself fascinated by the concept of Warhol’s Factory, a creative space inhabited by artists and performers working together and independently of each other.

Wouldn’t it be nice to work in this way? Surrounding yourself with creatives and making beautiful things. Pushing boundaries together.

I am constantly inspired by my friends. I count myself as extremely fortunate. You know who you are if you are reading this; there is more than one of you who take me out of my own little space and show me colour and style, the gift of sound and vision.

The tutorial in this month’s Cake Decoration & Sugarcraft Magazine is an edible recreation of one of Warhol’s early works, Lips (stamped) on canvas. I love this piece – anything with lips on is right up my street! It’s not impossible to recreate at home – in fact, it’s fairly easy if you are organised.

You can pick up a copy of Cake Decoration & Sugarcraft in stores or online (by clicking here) now. In each issue, I will be creating another new tutorial around someone from history who inspires me – sometimes, I even look to modern 20th century history!

Stay gorgeous!
