I feel terrible for missing a couple of weeks of my regular Monday blog post – I’ve been swamped over the last few weeks and had every intention of writing over my weekend away with Chris… but I decided that I would rather spend the time with him and have a white wine spritzer.
I regret nothing.
In lieu of a fantasy bake, I thought I would share my most recent contribution to Cake Decorating & Sugarcraft Magazine with you. In the May issue of this delightful magazine, I have created a Wedding Cake for Humphrey Bogart & Lauren Bacall.
I’ll be honest with you, I cried a little as I wrote that introduction. Thanks to my addiction to the You Must Remember This podcasts about classic Hollywood, I am fairly sure that Bogart & Bacall did not have the perfect marriage; for example, he was very strict in ensuring that they were never apart, which was all very romantic but meant that she had to turn down several film roles AND ensure the horrific camping conditions on the set of The African Queen (John Huston, 1951) in order to adhere to this rule.
However, I stand by my assertion that their lasting moments are perfect. Any Google image search for Bogart & Bacall will give you classic on-screen encounters, film noir styling, kisses and embraces. All in black and white, all beautiful.

Their real Wedding Cake was adorable but If I really had this commission, I would make my three-tiered cake design at least twice as big. There is not enough cake in the world for me to honour these two.
In the magazine, you can follow my step by step instructions to create a layered pinstripe effect on your cakes and the world’s easiest sugar flowers.
Or you can just enjoy my introductory words and these pictures!
Stay gorgeous!
